Customs Information
Neutral guidance on customs in international shipping — what typically applies, which documents are usually involved, and where TGL's role ends.
Understanding Customs in Your Shipment
Customs is an important part of international shipping — but it is not a service TGL currently provides. Here is how the responsibility is typically divided.
Our Role
TGL coordinates the transport process — booking, shipping documentation and shipment tracking. TGL does not currently act as a customs broker and does not submit customs declarations.
Customs Clearance
Not currently provided by TGL. Where required, customers remain responsible for arranging customs clearance with an appropriately authorized customs broker/agent at origin and/or destination.
Typical Export Documents
Commercial invoice, packing list, transport documents (e.g. bill of lading) and — where applicable — documents an authorized broker prepares, such as export declarations.
Typical Import Documents
Consignee/importer details, invoice and packing list, HS/tariff codes and any permits or licences required in the destination country — usually prepared via the importing customs broker/agent.
Duties & Taxes
Import duties, taxes and port fees at destination are typically the receiver's responsibility and are settled with local customs authorities via your broker/agent.
